Stainless steel

Stainless steel stands for stainless steel, it is also called stainless steel. Stainless steel is an alloy of mainly iron, chromium, nickel, and carbon. Stainless steel is used when a minimum of 11 to 12% chromium and a maximum of 1.2% carbon is present. One often speaks of so-called 'stainless' steel, this is popularly established, but this is not the correct name.

Properties stainless steel

Stainless steel has some important properties. We list the most important ones in this section. Stainless means that when chrome comes into contact with oxygen, an invisible layer is formed. This layer protects the underlying metal against corrosion. Stainless steel is hard, this hardness is determined by the amount of carbon in the steel. This often makes stainless steel difficult to work with. This steel type is very sensitive to chlorine. City water and swimming pool water, among others, are very aggressive towards stainless steel. A shallow pit can form, where more and more chlorine ions collect, this will corrode the steel. This steel type is relatively less elastic than other steel types.
